Farm School
Zambia

Glimmerings of hope are shining through various initiatives around the globe – often very modest at first, but gradually gaining in momentum and experience.

One such initiative, FarmSchool Zambia, is gaining insights and experience in building vibrant, harmonious, and sustainable communities through a unique educational process. Lessons learnt here could have implications for communities anywhere, be they rural or urban.

Inspired by the pioneering work of the FUNDAEC foundation in education and community development over the last few decades, we are striving to apply proven models of transformation in a few rural, and semi-urban settings of Zambia.

In 2002, FUNDAEC’s core program was hailed “the greatest revolution in education of the 20th century” and received the “Change the World – Best Practice Award.” The United Nations recognized its impact on sustainable development in 2008, 2011, and 2017, and influence of its programs continues to be amplified through communities worldwide.

Our Five Year Mission

Over the next five years we aim to establish a vibrant, interconnected network of about 20 community learning centers (CLCs) within a 7km radius, where every member in a community is accompanied on a path of lifelong learning, action, and reflection in various fields ranging from pre-school education, tutorials, literacy, healthcare, agriculture and technical education.

As of June 2025, we secured land to support 20 centers and two Community Colleges.

Five centers serving about 8 villages are at various stages of development already.

Our Goal For 2026:

To build and operate one new school at Chola Village to serve about 200 learners.

How It Works:

We're making our CLCs truly self-sustaining, providing each a five -acre farm plot, shared resources, practical training, and ongoing support. Along the way, we empower local families to build their own path to self-sufficiency.

In a few years, we hope to gift our first cluster of 20 centers with a College Community for Trades & Vocations, opening doors to higher education for rural youth, especially girls, who currently face severe restrictions owning to access and affordability.

How To Help:

Modest achievements of the last few years have been possible by relying on savings and a family loan. To keep growing -building infrastructure, supplying student materials, and regularly training teachers- we are reaching out to the wider community to support this mission.

Traditional funding and grants often cause dependency and disunity in communities, as members compete for them. However, when they realize personal sacrifices are being made to support their education, they respond with equal or greater desire to assist fellow members and new communities in their respective journeys.
