" This is indeed India; the land of dreams and romance, of fabulous wealth and fabulous poverty, of splendor and rags, of palaces and hovels, of famine and pestilence,
of genii and giants and Aladdin lamps,
of tigers and elephants, the cobra and the jungle, the country of a thousand nations
and a hundred tongues, of a thousand religions and two million gods, cradle of the human race, birthplace of human speech,
mother of history, grandmother of legend,
great-grandmother of tradition, whose yesterdays bear date with the mouldering antiquities of the rest of the nations
—the one sole country under the sun that is endowed with an imperishable interest
for alien prince and alien peasant,
for lettered and ignorant,
wise and fool, rich and poor, bond and free,
the one land that all men
desire to see,
and having seen once,
by even a glimpse,
would not give that glimpse
for the shows of
all the rest of the globe

Vishwa Yoga and Vishwa Ayurveda (RYT 200 & 300hr Trainings)
T r a i n i n g & J o u r n e y O v e r v i e w :
You've come a long way! You are in !ndia. It's like the other side of another world! Were you planning to visit this other world for the classic Yoga in India experience (all at one cushy resort) and then just leave? Or were you thinking to stick around, to try to see India on your own? Sure, it seems like a great idea, but Please, take it from me, even for experienced travelers, going to India without experienced help is... well... You see that monkey on the right hanging on to that train? Oh, the stories I could tell! But this web page is not about those wild stories. This page is about making the most of a deep yoga training in India while making the most of traveling in India by combining it with a deep yoga training in India.
The Vishwa Yoga Journey: Powerful Ayurvedic Yoga Teacher Training
Incredible Tour of South India & Bali, Indonesia
5 Elements, Ayurveda & The Meridians:
This unique and powerful training is based upon what the Indian system of Ayurveda refers to as the Panch Maha Bhuta (Five Great Elements) as well as the "Elemental Wisdom" found in Traditional Chinese Medicine and other congruent "medicine wheel" methodologies found throughout the world. However, it is not enough to simply write about the elements to really express their healing and edifying powers ~which encompass the whole universe. They need to be experienced; which is a big reason for the type of "tour" [for lack of a better word] that is combined with this training. Nevertheless, please go to This Page for more details about the training aspects of this journey. Or, for now, just have a look at our favorite infauxmercial. It really gets at the spirit of our endeavor!
It is not about touring India with Yoga.
This is about traversing India,
and the Five Great Elements,
The surroundings themselves are an integral part of the curriculum.
Goa Though there is much we can say about all of these places, I think the thing many people that are escaping a cold winter in Jan/Feb will be happy enough to know is that our first destination is that of a warm tropical beach! Here we will have a rest from our long travel to India and a detailed orientation to India, the training, and to one another. Goa is a great for this, as it welcomes adventurous yogi-travelers from around the world. It will ease you into India comfortably; as opposed to what could be a shocking plunge elsewhere.
Bhakti Kutir is a unique eco lodge, just one beautiful hiking minute from Goa's famous Palolem Beach. Here you can experience the luxuries of nature. Here the trees are not cut down for huts. The huts are built around the trees; literally, some have trees growing right up thru them; and some have outdoor showers that, though still enclosed and private, allow you to shower under the sun or stars. However you can also opt for a more "normal", less adventurous, room.
The food is also amazing, with many delicious vegetarian, vegan and raw food choices. BK has its own organic farm from which the food comes; including a green smoothie bar!
Study nature, love nature,
stay close to nature. It will never fail you.
~ Frank Lloyd Wright
Please Note: All lodging throughout the tour is eco-friendly and double occupancy; unless you pay additional expenses for a separate room well ahead of time. All Meals are vegetarian (with vegan options). Also, this training should not be used as an opportunity to detox. Alcohol, Tobacco or similar products are not allowed and such addictions should be overcome before coming. Furthermore, this is not a singles event. Any "hooking up" will have to transpire after the training. / Your room-mate will surely appreciate all of the above!
Dudh Sagar (milk falls) an almost nearby attraction. Yes! thats a train going in front of the falls! We will be taking that train to Hampi...
Training / Adventour
is NOT for everyone!
If you know you are prone to complain often ~ though knowing it probably isn't going to change anything;
if inconvenience & moderate discomforts disturb you to no end;
if you literally need air-conditioning;
if 5 ants at the entrance of your bamboo hut can keep you from entering; if mosquito's throw you into conniption fits; if sleeping overnight on a rickety train sounds like punishment for a lifetime of bad karma; if using a squat-toilet illicit's a sense of horror in you;
if you're a shop-a-holic and cannot pass a great bargain, even though you already have more than you can carry alone; If barking dogs, crowing roosters, heat, traffic, crowds...
...you get the idea!
And all of the above is inherent in the nature of this experience:
the challenge, the unexpected,
stepping outside your comfort zone.
This is not a vacation!
Nor is this simply a tour.
We really mean it when we say Training; and we really mean it when we say Adventour!
One of our many Earth Element classrooms
"Hampi is located within the ruins of the city of Vijayanagara, the former capital of the Vijayanagara Empire. Predating the city of Vijayanagara, Hampi continues to be an important religious centre, housing the Virupaksha Temple and several other monuments belonging to the old city. The ruins are a UNESCO World Heritage Site." (wikipedia). Legend also declares it as the birthplace of Hanuman, the monkey god. I would add that the Hindu Flinstones must have lived here as well. Pictures really do not do the place justice, nor does the video to the right (though a decent attempt at the landscape). However the video doesn't cover any of the endless temples carved out of the land, like the one pictured above. This is best saved for real-time! Of all places in India, Hampi never disappoints. Many have come back to Hampi after the training/tour for a longer stay.
It is at Hampi that we will find our greatest classroom for studying and experiencing the Earth Element.
Besides ancient stone ruins, Hampi is also considered the world's Mecca for Bouldering (a type of Rock Climbing). This is of course an optional excursion, and those who do it should not expect to have a lot of time for it. The thing that I am really glad about is our guide, Vikas (aka Jerry). Since i met him back in 2010, when he was about 16 years old, he has become a rock climbing rock star. We knew he was potentailly a great climber even back then before he was discovered ...back when he did it with barefeet!
Climbing OPTION (...on your day off!)
Though climbing is an incredible root chakra (earth element) practice that is about overcoming ones fears; with every movement being an intensely focused asana; that must rise above ones fears to conquer the task at hand; that naturally evolves into intense meditation; that inevitably cultivates into blissful exhileration; and probably the closest to NIrvana most people, yogi or not, will ever come; climbing is, nevertheless, just a 1 day option. And for those who are not up for it, they will find many equally amazing things to do there. But you might want to watch the video anyway just to see the amazing landscape.
As far as Asana-Yoga, the city of Mysore and particularly the Palace is the most significant historical sites for the asana yogi. This is where Krishnamacharya taught, as commisioned by the King, and attracting students who later would spread asana, as a form of yoga, throughout the world.
is it French?
is it Indian?
it is definitely Unique!
"Pondy" was occupied by the French and certainly left its influence. Mixed with Indian influence it has a unique charm that you cannot find anywhere else in India. But the biggest influence in Pondicherry is the world famous Sri Aurobindo Ashram which is threaded throughout the town. And just outside the town is Auroville...
Pyramid Valley is home of the worlds largest meditation pyramid. Though the pyramid has symbols for all 5 elements, a pyramid primarily represents the transformmative power of the Fire Element (as the word Pyramid comes from Pyr (fire) Amid (in the midst). Here we will practice Vipassana Meditation for 3 days in silence. However if after clicking the link Vipassana seems a bit overwhelming for you, it can be enough just to Be Here! As one Trip Advisor comment put it: Every time I visit this place my mind runs 100 times faster, this place gives me time to interact with my inner conciousness, most of the problems are solved when you find a solution within. Life runs real slow here... If you are troubled with lots of thought, this is a definite visit, to meet yourself, yes yourself! The Calm meditation gives you space [which kindles fire] to escape from rushing life, slow down a little bit, and clear your mind of clutter. This place is worth visiting again and again.

Auroville is not just a village or city,
It is the soul of a people with a spiritual vision...

Auroville only reveals her soul

Obviously, India is an important place of pilgrimage for any sincere yogi. But why add Bali?
You may have heard that Bali is called The Island of the Gods, but did you know these are Hindu gods? In fact, Bali is a Hindu island/state within the primarily Muslim country of Indonesia. This is a rather bizarre anomaly in itself, as most Muslim countries are, well, Muslim. But there is something really special about Bali! Anyone who has been there will tell you this. It is not just hyperbole. To me, India seems to hold the ancient ruins of yoga. But over the past 100 years India has been trading in a rich history in satsangh for Samsung. Though the spiritual life can still certainly be found and the ruins still evoke a deeper spiritual quest, unlike Bali, it no longer surrounds the pilgrim in exemplary yogic surroundings. Bali, on the other hand, is like a yoga oasis that escaped the tarnish of a materially changing India to continue a Hindu / Yogic life in pursuit of harmony with the Elements and the Divine; and this pursuit has been mostly successful. I believe it is why the other Indonesian states do not try to convert Bali to be more like the rest. In fact, not only do they prefer to not mess with a very, very good thing, but the government has been discussing for the past few years an intention to make more of the other Indonesian islands more like Bali.
Thus, for years the staff of Vishwa Yoga Journeys had been hearing about how magical it is in Bali. So in 2017 we sent one of our staff, Badi, to find out just how true the rumors are. Within a few days he reported that if we add Bali to the trip no one will ever want to leave. In fact, he suggested we do the whole training there. So in 2019 we did part of our journey there and ... we, sure enough, we couldn't get enough of it! So in 2020 we did our whole training there; and indeed it was awesome!
Nevertheless, after skipping a year of having the training in India, we also began to miss India just as much as Bali. Thus, this year, obviously, we are back to doing both India and Bali again, as both are remarkable in their own distinct ways. However, because we still feel like we can never get enough of Bali, and are quite sure you will feel the same, we have created a couple of options for you to stay a little longer:
1) A 12 day yoga retreat ! You might be wondering why you would want a yoga retreat after already doing a month of yoga traveling and training. But besides having more time to see Bali during the retreat, it's also way different than being in training where we are on a tight schedule of intense learning immersion. Thus, the retreat can be like a long exhale after breathing in so much training; allowing it all to soak in before going back to the potentially discombobulating distractions of the "real world" back home. Also, during this time you can get lots of massage because concurrent with this retreat we will be also be having a ...
2) 12 day Thai Yoga Massage training ! You might be wondering, why would I want to take a training in Thai Yoga Massage when this is already a part of the Vishwa Yoga & Ayurveda Training you will have just finished. However, the TYM aspect of the yoga training, though deep on many levels, is very limited when it comes to developing a bigger vocabulary of massage maneuvers and perfecting them; there just isn't enough time. However, if you stay for these additional 12 days of TYM training, your technique will have time to smooth out; you will learn more maneuvers and have time to refine them; as well as discover many greater ways to apply the vishwa ayurveda yoga training. Furthermore, you will receive a Level 3 Practitioner Certificate. (By just doing the VYJ training you receive only the Level 1 Certificate.)
Whichever you choose (the Retreat or the TYM training) the cost is the same. Simply an additional $500; which is less than half of what it cost for those coming for only the Bali Yoga Retreat or Bali TYM Training.

Whether you stay an extra 12 days or not, you will still get to see some of the best parts of Bali. Particularly, Ubud, its cultural center and where we will be staying. In fact, we stay very close to the Saraswati Temple pictured above. And though tempted to add many more pics here, often it is better to just be totally surprised by how awesome a place is. Thus, I suggest you don't go searching for many more pics of Bali, especially Ubud. Instead, come without previews; and just be open to having your mind blown. However, having said that, as yogic educators I still just can't help but to show you one more place near Ubud that we will be exploring...
Bali Green School / Dream School
One of our staff, Badi, is an educator who started his own elementary school in Bangalore; and is currently running a large school in Zambia. But everywhere he goes he emphasizes sustainable living and Elemental Elementary education. Similarly, Green School is famous for the training of future "green leaders." Thus, in 2017 Badi was invited to come to Green School where he formed a close connection with some of its founders. Badi is also simply a great guy and so when he informed them that we would be coming to Bali they offered to give us a tour; showing our YTT students all of the amazing things that happen at this magical "dream school."
Ayurvedic Treatment Opportunities Throughout The Journey
In previous Journeys we usually went to Kerala, "the birthplace of place Ayurveda," But as Ayurveda is becoming more well known throughout the world (via yoga) Ayurvedic Spas have spread throughout India. Thus, even though we are opting to go to Bali instead of Kerala this year, there will still be plenty of places and opportunities for great massage and Ayurvedic Treatments.
It is only in adventure that some people succeed in knowing themselves
- in finding themselves.
