Updated Nov 6, 2011:
Please Note:
Major Changes Ahead: The program, being oganic, has also grown tremendously. Therefore there is now an 11th Module!!! It is required for those who join the training after August 30, 2011 but free to those who started before August 30th and would like to take the 11th module anyway. (Everyone still only pays for 10 modules)
Sunday Mysore class time has gone back to 8:30a - 10:00a
Training Modules will be on hold from Nov thru mid Jan, 2012; re-starting with Module 5 Jan 21. This is due to a usual drop in attendance due to holidays as well as the director being in India during this time. During this time you should still keep coming to General Practicum hours to maintain continuity in your training. Or you might consider coming to INDIA yourself for our RYT 200 or 500 Training / S. India Tour." ..Next India training is tentively set for late June-July 2012 (includes tour of North India and Nepal) and the South India/Goa training should happen again in Nov - Dec 2012 as well. ~Details are in the making for the North India Training. Details on the S India training are in abundance at www.VishwaYogaJourney.com ...be prepared for intense yearning!

Overview / Syllabus / Schedule
Dear Aspiring Yogi
On behalf of the Cincinnati Yoga School community, I would like to welcome and thank you for inquiring into our Vishwa* Yoga Teacher Training program. In the following pages I hope to express our heartfelt sincerity to support you in the noble endeavor of becoming a true Yogacharya (teacher/exemplar of yoga); and explain as much as possible (with as much brevity as possible) how that support will look and feel and transform.
Nevertheless, it is inevitable that these descriptions and explanations will fall short as this program is very extensive—to say the least. Indeed, what you begin here is likely to extend throughout your life, much of it is literally beyond words. Please contact me with any questions or concerns you may have that are not covered in these few pages.
Our Mission
Cincinnati Yoga School evokes necessary wisdom, in harmony with safe and effective techniques, to reach a level of transformation for which each unique aspirant is ready. Though the practice of yoga postures plays a prominent part in the training, it is not given a disproportionate emphasis—as it is with many typical yoga trainings today.
Whether a vigorous or gentle approach, yoga must be accessible for every-body, every-mind, and every-spirit, or it is not a practice that honors the true meaning of its name. Yoga is the process of uniting an harmonizing one and all. Our training meets and challenges each unique trinity of body, mind and spirit at whatever level of development it seeks to expand upon. No level of fitness, body type, or previous experience is necessary. The only prerequisite is a sincere desire for transformation and to help others. (Notwithstanding, certain mental or physical challenges may be beyond our capacity to accommodate.)
"This teacher training has been more profound than I could have ever imagined. Will is the special kind of educator that doesn't just teach, he enables and empowers. I have gained the skills to feel confident as a yoga teacher but at the same time the heart of this training was much deeper. Will's training opened up space for exploration, surrender, connection, and limitless growth. Perhaps the most important part is that I know this training has no real end, it has only opened a door, leading to another door, another, and then another, forever. I will be living this training for the rest of my life."~Ethan
Yoga Teacher Certification
Let it be clear, holistic transformation/edification is our ultimate purpose. But in case you are wondering, our training also surpasses the requirements for you to register with Yoga Alliance, and thus become internationally recognized as a registered yoga teacher (RYT). Nevertheless, our primary goal is not to make you a teacher, but to leverage you substantially within the path of self-transformation. However, it just so happens that teaching is perhaps the best way to continue this lifelong training at a substantial level of depth. 'The best way to keep something is to give it away.' Therefore, teaching will be a natural and likely consequence. In this way, our sincere students learn yoga for the right reasons—and become great teachers for the right reasons.
Revolving/Flexible Schedule and Payment Plan
We offer perhaps the most unique and flexible schedule for attendance and payment in the region ~ while maintaining a quality program that many believe is unmatched by any yoga school ~ anywhere!
It has changed a bit for those who may have been to this page before, but still, we are able to meet the schedules and budgets of most working people by having a revolving schedule of training modules. (Before the schedule revolved about 3.5 times a year, but now it will only revolve twice as the director will be teaching in India twice a year now; in addition to CYS in Cincinnati and Frankfort Yoga Studio in Frankfort, KY.) In other words, if you miss a module you will get 2 opportunities to make it up within a year, or 3 opportunities within a year and half; however more than 1.5 years to complete the program is not permissable.
If an entire 20 hour module is too much for you to do in one weekend, then you have the option of doing some of the hours (called General Practicum Hours) on weekends when you are not in training. In other words, it is allowable to just put in 14 hours on a weekend, instead of 20. (22 hours when you include time for lunches). Whenever there are longer breaks between modules (like the Nov - Jan break) it is imperative that you keep coming to General practicum hours regularly so as to maintain some continuity of training, as well as continuously review the readings; no one "gets" these reading in one look; in fact you should keep coming back to the readings often, over and over, over many years.
You can pay for the course per module—10 modules for $250 per module—or you can pay for the entire (RYT 200) training up front for $2000* saving $500! (The new "11th Module" is free)
"If you're really serious about taking your yoga to the next level(s), sign up for teacher training with Will Brashear. Maybe it seems a little pricey, but run, don't walk, to your nearest organ clinic and sell a kidney if necessary to afford this experience. It's like one of those MasterCard moments. You know, the ones that are Priceless!I practiced, studied, and taught yoga for many of my 50 years but I needed guidance to go beyond my limited plateau. According to ancient wisdom, when the disciple is ready, the Guru appears. In Sanskrit the word "guru" literally means "one who dispels the darkness." My yoga future became much brighter when I met my guru Will.Trust me. Take the training. Prepare to be blessed."~Jim Rector
Training Perks
Idealy students should take 2 classes per week outside of training while enrolled. It is required that you do 20 classes outside of training within at least a 5 month period. Four more classes per month should be added for every month thereafter. These classes should be with a certified teacher, whether at CYS or elsewhere. We would like to help you achieve this by offering you 2 free classes at CYS (from our public class schedule) for every module you complete; which would amount to 20 free classes. However, though we encourage you to try many different classes and schools, the cost for any classes taken outside of CYS will be the students responsibility.
Mentor/Apprentice Tutoring: Many students will find that there is a certain style of yoga that they are drawn towards and that CYS has teachers that are adept at teaching it. Therefore, when taking your 20 required "outside of training" classes, it would be wise to attend the class of the style you like, if at all possible. Most of these teachers are also willing to personally mentor you outside of regular training hours. However, each teacher has certain expectations of their apprentices. With the demands you may already have upon yourself with the current training you may want to wait until after the training to become an apprentice ~in order to honor the dedication of your mentor.
"Words cannot express how the Vishwa trainings teachings have truly transformed my path and my life! Will has a remarkable gift that he is willing to share with those of us that want to walk in the light. I thank him for opening my eyes, heart and mind to experience the world around me."~Joanna
CONTINUED TRAINING PERKS
RYT 500 Perks! If you would like to go beyond our basic 200hr training (or have already completed an RYT 200 elsewhere) you will find that there are 3 modules in the RYT 500 Advanced course that are repetitions of modules found in the RYT 200** course (Modules 1, 3 and 8). Our policy is that any CYS module that has already been paid for once may be repeated at no cost ~for life; except for hours when we are paying a guest teacher, such as Joe Williams from New York. Whenever that is the case then we just ask that you pay $12 per hour for the hours of a module in which the guest is teaching, which is usually not more than 3 hours; with the exception of Joe Williams who trains us nearly all weekend.
The RYT 500 training does not imply an additional 500 hours. It is 300 that you add to the 200 already completed -or underway- in the RYT 200. Therefore, if you have taken the RYT 200 with us, the 3 modules you repeat within the RYT 500 would already be paid for.
***Notes***
Curently we only have the 500 hour training in India that is a part of a tour of India. Graduates of our 200 hour program will get a $500 discount if they take this training. for more information on the training visit: www.VishwaYogaJourney.com
(*Please feel free to compare the cost of this investment to the cost of all other yoga trainings in the region. You will find that most of them are usually well over $3000, often do not have any payment plan, and only allow you to join at the beginning of a preset course time, or wait several months for the start of their next training. ~We do not enjoy stating these facts to knock other programs, but only to help you make an informed decision.)
"I loved the CYS yoga teacher training program! After attending an Ashtanga teacher training at a different school, I felt I needed a deeper understanding of yoga philosophy - I found it in Will's program at CYS. will knows how to gently coax the teacher out of you. he helps you become aware of your inner voice in a supportive environment filled with love and compassion. If you want to go deeper into your training, and you want to help others by learning to be an intuitive, gentle teacher, Will's CYS yoga (teacher) training program is for you!"~Kelly
Required Hours
200 hours are to be completed "In Class". Usually modules/weekends are 20 hours, making it possible to complete the 200 hours required for certification within 10 modules / weekends. There are also 20 regular yoga classes to be taken outside of class time, in the presence of a certified RYT, along with occasional homework assignments. (See paragraph above regarding "Training Perks" and Mentors.)
General Practicum Hours & Focus Hours
General Practicum Hours are those that can be completed on any Saturday and/or Sunday mornings. On Saturday mornings starting at 10:45am students can attend our Beginner Power class that is open to the public. However students are not there to simply take the class. They are to either practice making *adjustments, or to observe the teacher making adjustments, or to observe/"shadow" other YTT students make adjustments who are further along in their training. (Lunch is from 12:15 - 1:15).
On Sunday mornings, starting at 8:30 we have "Mysore Style" practice. This is semi-personal practice time within a group setting. Students will work on classic yoga postures while the teacher goes around making adjustments and suggesting other postures and practices to each individual. Students will also use the time to practice making adjustments on one another. At 10:15 there is meditation instruction and practice that is open to the public. Students will observe, participate and, at a later stage of training, lead a portion of the meditation. Students should also participate in the group discussions that occur at various intervals of the meditation class, as being able to respond to the many varied questions about meditation is an integral part of teaching meditation. These General Practicum Hours end on Sunday at the end of meditation, 11:30am.
These hours can be acquired on any Saturday or Sunday, regardless of whether there is a YTT 200 module that weekend or not. In this way, students can stay involved and consistent with regular training even if they have to miss a module, or if the current module is one they have already completed.
Note: These are not the only Practicum Hours. There are others that must be completed within each module's respective focus.
(*"Adjustments" are what teachers do to assist students safely align in a pose or get more out of a pose, etc.)
"Have you taken yoga classes for years? Do you enjoy the practice, yet sense there's something more to be grasped, released or discovered within? Yoga Teacher Training with Will Brashear of Cincinnati Yoga School is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to widen and deepen your individual yoga practice, while strengthening you to share it with others. Conveniently scheduled to integrate into your work week, and priced so that a year from now you won't miss the tuition you spent, this training is a rare gem - not to be missed! From ayurveda to zen, you will find out more than before, and this experience can instill in every student a renewed capacity for a lifetime of yoga learning on many levels. Is it time for you to go back to school? Reflect and choose your adventures wisely this year. Prepare to be blessed!"~Leslie Laird
Commitment / How Fast or Slow Can I Go?
If you miss an entire module/weekend, don't worry. It will come around again within about 5 months. However all modules should be completed within at least 1 year. In general, we expect you to attend at least 1 module per month. Some circumstances, such as summer vacation, may excuse the student from this expectation. And, generally, we do not even hold any modules from Dec 1 - Feb 1 (...please make a note of this if you have a time requirement). However, if 4 or more weeks go by repeatedly without showing up for a module, it may be required for the student to repeat certain modules (at no extra cost). Again, we require this in order to maintain qualities of continuity.
However, we also expect sincerity! We reserve the right to NOT grant a teaching certificate to students who have simply "done" all of the modules, or seem to take the responsibility of teaching yoga without its highly due regard, or simply have not exhibited a character that CYS can endorse as a true YogaCharya (Exemplar of Yoga). In other words, it is possible to be suspended from the training. So far, only 1 out of about 100 trainees has had this happen. We intend that anyone suspended may also come back; we will work with them as long as they are willing to work with us!
(Some programs can "certify" you in one month. However, we strongly discourage this. It is simply absurd to even attempt to sincerely digest 200 hours of yogic knowledge and experience in such a short amount of time. On the other hand, taking too long is not ideal either. We suggest about 4 to 9 months ~wherever you decide to take training; unless it is a live-in training, living and breathing yoga for one month with no interference, such as our training in India: www.VishwaYogaJourney.com )
"The Yoga Teacher Training at CYS was an enriching life experience! It provided an opportunity to explore a variety of different yoga styles as well as time to experiment with my own practice. Through learning the history and principle teachings of yoga I feel that I now have the knowledge and confidence to create a safe, meaningful yoga class. I am so happy I chose CYS to complete my teacher training. One thing you can be sure of... you will leave this training a different person than when you came in!"~Lexi
Readings and Resources
There are many readings and resources to be engaged in throughout the entire training. In the syllabus/schedule below you will see readings that apply to the modules. Readings do not have to be completed before a module, and perhaps not in your lifetime. It is preferable to read only a few lines from each book, and really understand and apply them, than to read every book we suggest only to result in some vague "comprehension." (Details on the readings, including the books themselves, can be found in the syllabus below.)
Karma Yoga
Many wise yogi's have said, whatever one attains, without compassion, charity or service to others, it remains of no value.
Karma Yoga is selfless service to others. We require it as part of training, as a yogi of value to the world would require it of him/herself throughout their life. However this is not something we can monitor or grade. How could mandated service ever be truly selfless? Therefore, it must be voluntary. However, we have plenty of opportunities at the yoga school to volunteer, and we can also help you to find many other opportunities elsewhere. As a result of whatever service you may do, we anticipate (not mandate) a reflection paper on the effect of your Seva (another term for selfless service) to be shared with the class.
"When I set out to deepen my practice through a yoga teacher training, I found myself drawn to the philosophy of Cincinnati Yoga School. I was familiar with "asana" (postures) and very much sought to understand yoga in the fullness of its meaning. Studying with Will has provided such an opportunity and I am truly grateful for the extraordinary journey he has introduced to myself and others."~ Marissa
Promulgating The Cause (or Yogic Way of Business)
Although there is an entire module that addresses the business side of yoga, we want to give those who intend on reaching others with the teachings of yoga some hands-on experience with the process. Therefore, we will offer an actual event that each student will be in charge of promoting. This event can also be one that the student comes up with him/herself. True, it may be helpful to CYS for the student to do this for CYS. However, experience shows that students flop as often as they succeed. We are prepared for this, we know how difficult it can be, we will not judge you if it flops. Instead we will help you learn from the process. Furthermore, it may be more costly to the student if the student flops at promoting an event elsewhere, but that option is also available to them.
"...when the student is ready the teacher will come. I was ready and now my spiritual and physical life has so much more meaning!"~Marion Fraley
Practice Teaching (newer students observe)
Students who have completed 4 or more modules will begin doing regular 20 min "practice teaches" whenever possible. Hopefully 5 or more will be done before completing training. A minimum of 3 will be required. Generally we expect: 20min standing practice, 20min seated practice, and a 30min combination. However some may be thinking of working with special populations. So they might want to concentrate on teaching their respective specialty (i.e. meditation, pranayama, chair yoga, kid's yoga, etc.) ~Whatever the student decides to practice teaching we want them to keep in mind that this is not a performance, but an opportunity to experiment and make “mistakes.” A safe and supportive environment for exploration will be well established for this often nervous act of practice teaching; rest assured, we have a tactful and very encouraging group process for giving truly helpful feedback.
(Students not ready for practice teaching will be great guinea pigs for the students that are ready, as they will be true beginners and thus give a more real experience of what is necessary to teach beginners; as opposed to those who already know how to go into many postures. Newer students will also learn and be a part of the art/process of giving feedback, while becoming fully acquainted with what they will be expected to do later in the training.)
Investment:
SAVE $500 BY PAYING IN FULL!!!
RYT 200: $2000 if paid in full at start of training / $250 if paid per module x 10 modules = $2500 ($12.50 per hour)
-
Refunds:-
Yes, I put this at the bottom and in small print, but not to deceive, but as a way to emphasize that a full refund can greatly set-back a small "business" such as CYS.
Refunds to those who have paid in-full:
75% refund to those who drop out after the first weekend/module of training, but before the second module
50% refund to those who drop out after the second or third module, but before the fourth module
25% refund to those who drop out after the fourth module
No refunds thereafter.
Note: Refunds may take up to 6 months for complete dispersal.

Books:
Books are listed below under various module components. Most of them can be found used, but in good shape, on Amazon.com for less than $75. If you get all of the books new it will probably cost around $100, depending on what versions you get. Several can be found free on the Ocean Research Library program that is a free download at: http://www.bahai-education.org/ocean/
"The CYS yoga teacher training with Will has been a delightful journey. I took the course to learn more about what yoga is. I learned that beneath all the asanas(postures) lies an ocean of wisdom. I am beginning to understand why at the end of a yoga class I feel so relaxed and together that I want to keep coming back. Will is a remarkable teacher. He seems to live what he teaches. He has a keen intuitive side coupled with kindness and a large heart. He tailors his teachings to match the needs of his students, similar to how he teaches his yoga classes. There's a playful, light-heartedness in his approach which countered beautifully to our regular moments of deep contemplation. There was plenty of cross-referencing, and the guest teachers were excellent. I felt I have been stretched and grown and the sweetness lingers from the "steadiness & comfort" of our experience. The training was a meditation. And in following the words of Will that he offers at the end of each class ["Remember, the most important part of yoga is to take it with you."] I will take it with me. Namaste."~ Michiko

About *Vishwa* Yoga
Vishwa means Universe in Sanskrit, the language of ancient India. The CYS training clearly demonstrates how spiritual wisdom from around the world enhances the universal understanding and experience of Yoga. Therefore, it had long been my intention to have this reflected in the name of the training. In fact, i looked into the name "Universal Yoga" but was unable to apply it as i found that it had already been taken by a few other yoga schools. However, later on, when i discovered that Vishwa was the sanskrit word for Universe, i was very happy. Why? Because Vishwanath is also the name of my yoga teacher, "Masterji" Mysore Sivaram Vishwanath. Therefore the name Vishwa Yoga is able to support my intentions as a teacher of universal yoga and also honor the name of my own teacher.

Syllabus / Schedule
The following schedule reflects our main focus per module, but does not include many Practicum Hours, activities and experiences that happen in an ongoing way each weekend, such as pranayama (breathing exercises), mantras, mudras and practice teaches. These practices are a part of each module, as they would be impossible to adequately grasp in only one or two workshops.
(Please note that many one day/wknd yoga workshops try to teach an extensive amount of pranayama all at once. This is not only not recommended, but unsafe!)
Module / Weekend Schedule:
Saturdays 10:30am - *7:30pm: [Students may opt to come to 9:00am class -which is much more gentle- instead of the10:30am class. If they come to both then one of the classes can be counted towards the 20 required "outside classes".] Lunch is from 12:15 - 1:00. Therefore, students may begin the module at 1:00 and do General Practicum Hours some other weekend.
Sundays 8:30am - *7:30pm: Lunch is from 11:30 - 12:30. General Practicum Hours go from 8:30am - 11:30. Therefore, students may begin Sunday at 12:30 (after lunch) and do the General Practicum Hours some other weekend. (Some Sundays we have to start at 1:00 because we rent the room out to a Kriya meditation group)
[*Yes, we used to end at 8:30pm, but it was prefered to just take a 30 minutes instead of an hour for dinner so that we could end at 7:30-ish instead]
********************
!!!REMEMBER!!!
You can start the training at ANY time
You do NOT have to start with Module 1
You do NOT have to take the modules in any order.
However it is now required that you complete all modules within one year!

Coming up next... (...if the date has past scroll down to the nearest upcoming date)
Module 5 / Chakra Anatomy / The Bhagavad-Gita / Reiki Attunement / The Seven Valleys / World Religion-Religion / Cross Referencing for Truth
Jan 21 - 22, 2012
Chakra Anatomy
We will take an in-depth look at the major chakras, how they affect our behavior and health, how to assess whether they are balanced or not, and how to draw energy to them or away (depending on the assessment) with postures, mantras and mudras; and ~most importantly~ with the use of virtues in respect to the specific life challenges that affect each chakra.
Cross Referencing For Truth
Are the world’s religions really at odds??? Or does humanity have an odd tendency to create arbitrary divisions when challenged by the divine wisdom of paradox???
Required Reading: Founders of Faith: the parallel lives of God's messengers / Harold Rosen
The Seven Valleys
This is a Book that ultimately requires knowledge of the 7 major chakras and providential life experiences to truly understand. However, you can be assured these experiences will come. Written by the prophet, Baha'u'llah, who was unlearned in Sufi mysticism, nevertheless, inspired the learned Sufis of the day to spontaneously refer to him as a Sufi Master. This book is in response to perplexities put forth by an adept Sufi in reference to the deeply esoteric poetry that is strongly webbed into Sufi teachings. Therein, we also find—by cross referencing for truth—that the chakras referred to by the Hindu mystics are simultaneously illuminated in terms of life stages and challenges.
Required Reading/skimming: The Seven Valleys, by Baha'u'llah
(Dont expect to understand this book, just get acquainted with it. It will make more sense later on. It can be found on your Ocean program (which can be downloaded safely and for free in about 10 minutes at: http://www.bahai-education.org/ocean/ or it can be bought at Amazon.)
REIKI Training / Attunement Reiki Masters: Brandia Allen and Jeff Emerson will teach the healing method of Reiki, including how to apply it to your skills as a Thai Yoga Masseur. After the "attunement" you will be giving a Reiki I certificate.
The Bhagavad Gita
Considered "the Bible of yoga,” and "the world's oldest psychology textbook,” the "Gita" describes a way of life that is the surest path towards the ultimate states of yoga; the same yoga promised at the heart of all world religions.
Required: Bhagavad Gita - Dont expect to understand this book, just get acquainted with it. It will make more sense later on. It can be found on your Ocean program or bought at Amazon.

Module 6 / Ayurveda, Karmic Footprint, Rebirth and Resurrection
Jan 28 - 29, 2012
Ayurveda / Yogic Lifestyle and Diet
Discover your Dosha (Ayurvedic Constitution) and learn why what’s good for others (in terms of diet, exercise, approach to life, etc.) may not be good or optimal for you—and the reverse.
Required Reading: Ayurveda and the Mind- by David Frawley (-Formerly a suggested reading)
Softening Your Karmic Footprint
Perhaps you have heard of your Carbon Footprint and how it affects your Self and the world in ways you may not have been aware of. Similarly, the way in which we lead our lives affects the macrocosm in ways we have not previously imagined. In this segment, we will have a contemplative meditation followed by a discussion that penetrates many veils on the surface of our minds that could be easily brought down, but more often are ignored.
Symbolic Understandings of Rebirth and Reincarnation
Cross Referencing For Truth (see Module 5) students will find that there is far more to learn from the symbolic understanding than the literal; and also come to know why so many of the most scholarly and revered yoga teachers, whether believing in a literal concept of reincarnation or not, have advised students not to dwell on thoughts of past lives, but to concentrate on this life, nay, this very moment. Furthermore, the symbolic understanding is congruent with what most other world religions teach about rebirth. In this way, we build a common ground for a more ready dialog between those who believe in reincarnation and those who do not, while broadening the comprehension and appreciation of these deep symbols for both.
Karmic Beliefs in relation to Indian Caste System and Mass Apathy
As sincere yogis we should not only be concerned for ourselves but the condition of the world. There is a tragic misunderstanding about karma that has wreaked centuries of devastation upon India's downcast. Ultimately, we find India effectively has no middle class with the impoverished outnumbering the outlandishly rich millions to 1.

Module 7 / The Art of Seeing; Eye Yoga / Desktop Yoga, Chair Yoga, Restorative Yoga
Feb 4 - 5, 2012
The title of this module is self-explanatory, but because we work a lot with the eyes, students who wear contact lenses should be prepared to bring regular glasses ~ and preferably of a weaker strength. Otherwise many of the benefits that are possible -within this one weekend- will either not be attained or, even if they are, the eyes may go right back to the way they were. This is because the strength of the current prescription will then be too strong.
Suggested Reading: Take off your Glasses and See - by Jacob Liberman
Module 8 / Knowing vs. Living: A Silent and Sincere Weekend of Living the Practice
Feb 18 - 19, 2012
Though there will be clear and complete instructions, students will refrain from unnecessary communications *including meal times and while at home* as an opportunity to glimpse the awakening power of silence. We will also have longer sessions of Asana, Pranayama and Meditations including several variations of a Zen Vision Walk at a nearby (little known and unfrequented) park.
*Students may stay at CYS overnight as an aid to avoid speaking by going home.
Required Reading: Chapter 9 in Stephen Cope's book, The Wisdom of Yoga
Suggested Reading: Eat, Pray, Love - by Elizabeth Gilbert
*
Module 9 / The History and Progressive Revelation of Yoga. Also: 2012, Mayans, Mandalas, Mound Builders, Masons and Martians
March 3 - 4, 2012
After a review of the history of yoga and the concept of Progressive Revelation, we will become acquainted with those Avatars and Saints who have been attributed to helping its global spread. Thereafter, we will explore the future of yoga. This will include New Age mysticism with age old insights, quantum physics, sacred geometry, crop circles, the implications of individual, internal evolution and the collective, planetary, spiritual revolution.
Required Reading: A New Earth - by Eckart Tolle
(This book was formerly a Suggested reading, but by this date it will be required)
Suggested Reading: The Kitab-i-Iqan - by Baha'u'llah
Suggested Reading: Beginners Guide to Constructing the Universe - by Michael Schneider
(This book does not have to be completed in this lifetime; actually that goes for most of the books in this training :)
*
Module 10 (a one day module) / Practice Teaches, Business Side of Teaching, Ethics of Teaching, Ethics of Chakras, Setting/Clarifying Intentions
March 10 - 11, 2012
-
We will discuss some very practical matters with getting started in the arena of teaching, such as insurance, making a living, and running a business. Emphasis, however, will be given on the ethics of teaching, principles and faith.
Suggested Reading: Teaching Yoga: exploring the teacher-student relationship - by Donna Farhi
Module 11
March 17 - 18
This is a new module in the works. The main purpose of this extra module is to utilize as an overflow for things in previous modules that get less coverage due to the fact that the whole training is a living thing that is growing. It is possible that this module is only one day.
(Those paying per module will still only pay for 10 modules total)
Meditation Initiation / Graduation Ceremony
The meditation Initiation involves sitting in stillness for one full hour
Graduation Ceremeony follows the meditation..
Friends and Family are invited to the ceremony.
*****
***You do not have to start with this module***

Module 1 / Spiritual Companioning: Discovering The Guru Within
March 24 - 25
This module is perhaps our most profound, healing and transformational. It also sets a great foundation for the entire training. It is the best place to begin because it sets a respectful and remarkably noble tone for how students will interact with one another, and quite possibly everyone else in their life. Some even call it "guru training" because it is that extra special "something" that, not only can make you a great yoga teacher, but perhaps the most helpful friend anyone could ever have when they have a problem; the wise soul and safe haven for the distressed that need a compassionate (calm-passionate) friend as much as, and often more than, a good yoga/asana workout.
Much of this training involves learning how virtues get us in connection with the deeper layers within [yoga] while communicating with others. When listening, we learn to do so with our whole being and with no agenda. This may sound simple, but most students are surprised at the challenge it gives them to actually practice doing it. More importantly, it is extremely healing to be heard in such a way. Likewise, learning to speak from your Higher Self -with a language of virtue- to the Higher self in others frees the Higher Self to respond in both the speaker and the listener! To live from this place is the true yogi's sincere aspiration.
Required Reading: Secret of the Yamas - by John McAffee (This reading can be done before, during, or after the module; but preferably all 3.)

Module 2 / Essential Anatomy / Intro to Thai Yoga Massage
April 7 - 8, 2012
We begin with an Anatomy program created by Paul Grilley. With real live case examples, he makes it clear that there is no style of yoga perfect for everyone and pressuring students to fit molds or expectations we have learned as "the way we are supposed to do it" is asking for trouble. With Paul we learn to approach each person authentically - as they are - an Individual! This is absolutely essential knowledge for conducting a safe practice.
I consider the Thai Yoga Massage (TYM) segment of this module to be like a Hands On Anatomy experience. TYM, also called "lazy mans yoga", enables you to take someone thru a full body acupressure massage while giving them a fantastic stretch at the same time. You can use the TYM training as a whole new addition to your yogic work -and thus add extra yogic income (although the TYM certification training would then be highly recommended / see below) - or you may just use it in your regular yoga classes to give your students fantastic yoga adjustments as well as healing and relaxing corpse pose perks!
However the point of this module is not to give you extra tools for use outside of yoga, rather these skills will fine tune your abilities to be an extremely discerning, intuitive, sensitized and very well rounded yoga teacher / healer.
Suggested Material: There are many books on Thai Yoga Massage to learn new moves and use as a resource. You are free to choose whichever one you like; however you might want to be sure that the book also has a dvd, as so many of them provide.

Taught by Joe Williams
Formerly of the Julliard School of Arts in NYC (as far as we know) Joe is the world’s only reviving master of the entire Delsarte System of Expression - a phenomenon that once influenced a whole era in history— particularly art, drama and dance. However, Joe has remarkably adapted this knowledge to yoga in a way that will leave you feeling that any sincere yogi of depth will find it as absolutely essential to insightful, graceful, harmonious, inspirational and artful teaching.

Module 4 / Yin Yoga / Vipassana Meditation / Actions from Wholeness / Languaging / Mahabharata -Intro to the Bhagavad Gita
May 5 - 6, 2012
(Please note: "Asana Sculpting" was in this module but has now been spread into intervals throughout the whole training )
Yin Yoga
Yin is now appropriately recognized as the other half of an Asana Practice.
Vipassana Meditation is the other half of a Yin Practice. Both are becoming the most widely practiced and celebrated forms of therapeutic spiritual growth. Vipassana also enhances one’s ability to get the most out of all other forms of asana and meditation.
Suggested Reading: YinSights: A Journey into the Philosophy & Practice of Yin Yoga - by Bernie Clark
Suggested Video: Yin Yoga - by Paul Grilley
Action From Wholeness - Too hard to explain fully here, but includes speaking from a place of presence and asana "languaging" for effective teaching.
Wholeness and Asana Languaging - The meditative approach to guiding students with your voice.
Asana Sculpting {Please note that this asana sculpting is no longer being taught during this module but spread thoruhgout the entire training}
There are 7 ways to adjust your yoga students in postures to keep them and safe and help them get the most out of a pose. There is also an art to each technique. After these are learned you will be permitted to practice giving adjustments outside of YTT in regular CYS class settings.
The Mahabharata / Intro to the Bhagavad-Gita
The "Gita" is considered "the Bible of yoga" and "the world's oldest psychology textbook.” This intro will help prepare you for a deeper understanding that comes up in the next module/weekend.
Suggested reading: The Mahabharata - can be found on the Ocean research library, which can be downloaded safely and for free in about 10 minutes at: http://www.bahai-education.org/ocean/
The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali
Intro to the limbs of Astanga Yoga: Astanga is mainly known as a difficult style of asanas, also known as Power Yoga. However it is more accurate to be understood as 8 different, but organically interconnected, "limbs" of a prescribed way of life.We will explore the interconnection of these 8 limbs: Yama, Niyama, Asana, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, Samadhi
Required Reading / Resource: The Heart of Yoga -by TKV Desikachar.
Required Reading: The Wisdom of Yoga -by Stephen Cope.
(The above 2 books are not to be read and digested before or after this module, but should be studied in pieces throughout the entire training.)
Required to Review: Yoga Sutras of Patanjali.
(Dont expect to understand the Sutras without commentary, just get acquainted. It will make a little more sense later on in light of the other books. The Sutras are also already included in both of the above mentioned, required books: Desikachar and Cope)
